Maternal Fetal Medicine Training (#19)

Joanne Said

Maternal Fetal Medicine is recognised as one of the five subspecialties accredited by the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.  Training is undertaken over 3 years at the completion of the 6 year specialty certification (may be commenced in the final year of specialty training). The curriculum includes training in obstetric medicine, diagnostic and procedural ultrasound, genetics, neonatology and research. Trainees are expected to complete a research project and formal assessment includes hospital based assessments of ultrasound scans as well as written and oral examinations. Maternal Fetal Medicine subspecialists typically work in tertiary maternity settings where multidisciplinary collaboration is essential.
